Red Hot Chili Peppers在90年代初期事业达到高峰，Under The Bridge更为他们得到了一座葛莱美奖，但毒品问题也一直困扰着他们。前女友吉他手Salvok就是死于毒瘾，主唱Kiedis更是一个大毒虫，好几次毒瘾发作而濒临死亡。
Under The Bridge就是Kiedis在一次毒瘾发作差点送命后所做的，其中抒发了他对故乡洛城的热爱和对自己染上毒瘾的悔恨。
